Samuel was born in Ohio to Squire Robert M. Whitaker and Rebecca (nee Wimer) he married Mary Ellen Davis on 5 Dec 1872 in Newark,Wilson, KS. Per Nora Lane "they had three small children at the time of his death Amfie Nora, Orlie Wakefield and Samuel Hathaway Whitaker, Jr all under the age of six years. He was just 27 yrs of age when he was thrown from a horse and hit his head on a rock. He did not regain consciousness before he died five days later of 'brain fever' or inflamation of the brain." May he rest in peace.
