Ruth was born on September 23, 1922, near Artas, SD, to Calvin and Rosina Hoerth Ochsner. She married Calvin Fuehrer on July 2, 1941, and they farmed near Artas until October 1985, when they moved to Rapid City. To this union four children were born: two sons, Sherman and Charles, and two daughters, Sharon and Sheila.
Ruth was dearly loved by her large family and will be missed by all. She had a kind spirit and a giving heart. She will be remembered for her passion for cooking, her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens, and her love of quilting. She had a strong faith and was a member of the Hope Christian Reformed Church in Rapid City.
She is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Bob) Welder, Rapid City and Sheila (John) Kelly, Houston, TX; four grandchildren, Beth (Dirk) Courchaine, Rapid Ctiy, Kim (Chuck) McCullough, Brookings, SD, Chris (Tiffany) Kelly, Stuttgart, Germany, and Michael Kelly, Houston, TX; four great-grandchildren, Nick Courchaine, Maddie McCullough, Zane and Kinley Kelly; two sisters, Darlean Hoisington, Woodbridge, VA, Delores Roland, Minneapolis, MN; four brothers, Cornell Ochsner, Herreid, SD, Donald(Shirley) Ochsner, Aberdeen, SD, John (Joyce) Ochsner, Herreid, SD, and Jerald (Joyce) Ochsner, Rapid City, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Calvin Fuehrer; two sons, Sherman and Charles; two brothers, Elmer Ochsner and Milton Ochsner; and her great-granddaughter, Alex Courchaine.
A prayer service will be held Thursday, July 14, 2011, at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City with Pastor John Keizer officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior. Funeral Services will be held in Herreid, SD, on Saturday, July 16, 2011, at the First Reformed Church with the Reverend Jimmy Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Friedens Heintz Cemetery near Artas, SD.
