The Correctionville News, 13 November 1958, page 1: Charley George Baxter was born July 26, 1891, on a farm near Cushing and passed away November 4, 1958, at the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls after a lingering illness. He is survived by his wife Florence, daughter, Mrs. Howard (Jean) Mallonee of Denison and two grandchildren, Darleen and Darrell. He was a member of the Cushing Methodist Church. He was a veteran of World War I, serving in France for some time. He was a charter member of the F. Roger Baumann American Legion Post in Cushing where he was an active member for many years. His entire life was spent in the Cushing Community. Funeral services were held at the Cushing Methodist Church on Friday, November 7, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Harry Whyte officiating. Burial was in the Cushing Cemetery with military rites, under direction of Wilson-Hull Funeral Home.
