At his home on the Campbellsville Pike on Wednesday, May 5, 1915 at 11:45 a.m. , James Leonard Hamilton of ages infirmities age 72 years & 15 days. He was born April 20 , 1843 in Taylor County, Kentucky and removed with his parents to Green County when 1 year old where he lived all his life. When the Civil War was begun he enlisted in Company E 13th Kentucky Infantry and served gallantly for three years, four months and five days. When honorably discharged he returned to Green County and married Miss Nancy Ellen Hagan, Jan 29,1868 who with a son Ulssyes G. Hamilton and a daughter Mrs. H.G. Jones survive him together with three brothers, J.C. , L.A. , and B.F. Hamilton and five sisters, Mrs. J.W. Noe, Mrs. T.G.Chuadoin, Mrs. J.H. Larimore, Mrs. W.A. Mayes and Mrs. J.R. Bell. Three sisters and one brother preceded him, the original family consisting of eight sisters and five brothers. He joined teh Greensburg Presbyterian church 18 years ago and has lived a consistent Christian life until his death. He was elected jailer of Green County by his party and having discharged the duties of the office was elected County Judge which office he filled with fidelity. He was a kind husband and father, a true friend and a spendid example of law and order loving citizenship.The funeral was conducted at the house Thursday morning at 9 o'clock by Rev. T.E. Ennis after which the remains were escorted to the Greensburg Cemetery despite the threatening weather, and reverently laid to rest to await the great resurrection.
