Rites Held For Miss A. Haas
Funeral services for Miss Amalia Haas were held at St. Bernard's Catholic Church here at 9:30 Thursday morning, Feb. 19th, the Rev. Herbert J. Hoffman officiating. Miss Haas passed away here on Monday, Feb. 16th following a long illness. She had reached the age of 75 years, 11 months and 17 days.
Miss Haas was born in Hayton, Wis., on Feb. 23, 1883, and came to Thorp with her parents when about six years of age. She had lived all of her life since then in this community with the exception of 13 years spent with her sister, Mrs. Guy Leiby in Menasha, Wis. She returned from Menasha in August 1958 and spent her last days here.
She leaves to mourn four brothers, George, Robert and Casper Haas of Thorp and Joseph Haas of Stanley; three sisters, Anna, Mrs. Frank Smitke, Margaret, Mrs. Alfred Kass of Thorp, Elizabeth, Mrs. Guy Leiby of Menasha, and numerous nieces and nephews. One sister Bertha, Mrs. Oscar Boie, preceded her in death.
She was laid to rest in St. Bernard's Cemetery. Nephews served as pall bearers. They were Milbourn, Leonard, Melvin, and Henry Haas, Frederick Smitke and Harvey Boie.
Relatives and friends from out of town who were here to attend the funeral of Miss Amalia Haas were: Mr. and Mrs. John Hanamann and family, Appleton, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Butterfield and daughter, Wausau, Mr. and Mrs. Art Hanson, Spencer, Wis., Conrad and Bernard Haas, and LeRoy Hurth of Cadott, Mr. and Mrs. Milburn Haas, Mrs. Millard Timlin, Joe Haas and Mrs. Hull, of Stanley.
