MARTIN, Sheldon Charles David Passed away peacefully on Monday, July 11, 2011, in his 96th year, with his family by his side, at Nithview Home in New Hamburg. Beloved husband of the late Mary Ann Dahmer (deceased 2003), dear father of Ron Martin and his wife Doreen, of Waterloo, Carol Gilmore and her husband Don, of New Hamburg, Janet Good, of Waterloo, and Wayne Martin and his wife Judith, of Manitoulin Island. Loving grandfather of Rick Martin and his wife Kelly, Mike Gilmore and his wife Darolyn, Mary Sue Gilmore, Kevin Kleihauer and his wife Heather, Karen Kleihauer and Vero Duchesne, Ashley, Amber and Leah-Anne Martin, Stephen Martin and his wife Tisha, and Tiffany Freer. Cherished great-grandfather of Priya and William Martin, Lily and Carson Gilmore and Kiera Martin. Sheldon was predeceased by an infant son, Richard, his father David G. Martin, his mother Louise Hamel, and step-mother Katherine Krueger, his sister Ethel Gatchene and brother-in-law Cavelle Gatchene. He was the last surviving member of his family. Sheldon served his country in the Second World War with the Algonquin Regiment. During his life, he enjoyed making brooms in Waterloo, farming for 34 years, being proprietor of Martin General Store in St. Helen's, working at Neuhauser's Chick Hatchery, being a security guard, and janitor of Bethel Pentecostal Tabernacle. Sheldon and his late wife retired to Nithview Village in 1988. During his retirement, he enjoyed latch hooking, playing the piano and joining in with his family for many good games of crokinole, shuffleboard and dominoes. Friends and relatives may call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg, today (Tuesday) from 6-9 p.m. On Wednesday, July 13, 2011, transfer will be made to Nithview Retirement Home, 200 Boullee St., New Hamburg, for visitation at 10-11 a.m. in the community room. The funeral service will be at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Amsey Martin officiating. Burial to follow in Riversie Cemetery, New Hamburg. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Living Water Community Christian Fellowship or to Nithview Community. A special thank you to the staff of Nithview Retirement Home for all their loving support and compassionate care over the past years.
