Lotisa M. Jewell was born to Orrilla Shackford and Ira Jewell about 1836/1837 in Vermont. "Lotria" Woodward, 14, was living at Woodbury, Vt in 1850 with her mother, now Mrs. Samuel Woodward (FAG #53220078). (census, FamilySearch.Org). Lotisa must have taken her mother's 2nd marriage last name.

On August 20, 1853, W.B. Preston gives permission for his ward, Lotica/Latius M. Jewell to marry William Chauncey/Chauncy Preston (FAG #68307810) (Ohio County marriages, Family Search). Willard Bainbridge Preston (FAG#68307839) was born about 1816 in Vermont. His wife was Angeline Shackford, probably the sister of Orrilla Shackford. Living in Columbus Ohio, in 1850 and living next to W.B. & Angeline was W.C. Preston (census, Family Search). William Chauncey/Chauncy Preston, the bother of Willard Bainbridge, was born about 1814 in Vermont. A daughter, Annie Orrilla Clark, was born to Ira Clark and "Lotica" on September 11, 1861 at Duxbury (Vt vital records FamilySearch). Sadly, she succumbed to scarlet fever when she was just two. There are 2 Vermont death records for her (FamilySearch). One states that "Anna O"Clark, the daughter of Ira Clark and "Luticia" passed away on the 29th of March in 1864 at Duxbury. The other says "Orilla" Clark, the daughter of "D.D".Clark and L.M. died on March 30th. She is interred at Phillips Cemetery, Duxbury as Orilla A.Clark (FAG#53746953) along with other members of the Clark families. After the Civil War, a widow's pension (certificate #37413, Fold3) was awarded to Lotisa M. Clark and her 2 [surviving] children. Ezra C. would receive funds until the age of 16 on August 17, 1873.
