Mark was born to Edwin Nelson Austin and Emma Wood. He had nine siblings: Clarence Sheldon, Arta Chase, Claude, Nellie, Torrey Lynn, Samuel Matthews, Horatius Nelson, Roy Irl, and Otis Rolla. Mark married Gertrude Dorothy Granshaw on 14 June 1911 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They had two sons: Laurence Rolla and Roy Irl. Mark died in Ogden, Utah and is buried in Paris, Idaho.
