Melvin Jay Stewart passed away peacefully at home in Fairview July 10, 2011.

He was born in Mount Pleasant , UT on November 25, 1925 to Chancey Loran and Florence Setella Jensen Stewart.

He graduated from North Sanpete High School in 1944.

He married Helen Bessie Mower May 24, 1944 in the Manti LDS Temple. His beloved wife Helen passed away November 17, 1997. They had 4 children, 15 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.

He then married Marietta Brady Coates the first girl he ever dated in high school on September 6, 1998 in the Manti LDS Temple.

Melvin served in the Army Air Force during WWII as a wing gunner in a B17 in Italy. After the war he moved to Provo, Utah where he worked for Geneva Steel as a supervisor in the rolling mill for nearly 40 years. He loved old cars and collected over 400 at one time and then he decided to call it Stewart's Auto Wrecking. He was a true collector at heart.

He was a member of the LDS Church and served in many callings during his life. He is known for his generous nature, having been a quiet benefactor to many throughout his life. Special attributes Mel possessed include, his optimistic nature, his happy friendly attitude and his amazing ability to out work everyone around him.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Marietta Stewart, Fairview, UT; children, Melvin Wayne (Toni) Stewart, Perry, UT; Donald (Virginia) Stewart, Millburn, UT; Judy (Richard) Whiting, West Jordan, UT; sister, Maridean Taylor Johansen, Payson, UT; Ronald Lee "R.L." (Carlene) Taylor, Mount Pleasant, UT; Larry Wayne (Judy) Taylor, Cedar City, UT; sister-in-law, Velma Stewart, Cedar City, UT; grandchildren, Staci, Steven, Scott, Shelby, Shawn, Peri, Jenny, Jason, Heather, Shelly, Richard, Brian, Michael, Sherry, Daniel; Preceded in death by wife Helen; son, Gary Dean Stewart; brother, Chauncey Owen Stewart.

Funeral services will be held Thursday July 14, 2011 at 1:00 pm in the Fairview LDS (Rock) Church (100 North 100 East).

Friends may call Thursday from 10:30 am-12:30 pm at the church prior to services.

Interment in the Fairview City Cemetery.
