Moses Taylor Dies at 84

Kamas, Summit County – Moses Campbell Taylor, 84, former Summit County Commissioner and community and Church worker in Kamas, died Thursday in a Salt Lake City hospital of complications following surgery.

In addition to a four-year term as a Summit County commissioner, Taylor served from 1912 to 1916 as county clerk. He was previously deputy county clerk and treasurer from 1907 to 1911.

A treasurer of the South Summit School District in 1936, Taylor also served for many years on the Kamas Town Board.

He was a charter member and past president of both the Kamas Commercial Club and the Kamas Valley Lions Club. He also had served 51 years as president and cashier of Kamas State Bank. He was a member of the executive committee of the Utah State Bankers Association.

President of the Park King Mining Co., Taylor also served as vice president of both the Kamas Gold Mining Co., and the Copper Mountain Co., secretary-treasurer of Rees Grass Creek Coal Mining Co., and on the board of directors of Standard Mining Company.

He also established an automobile dealership in Kamas in 1912.

Taylor was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served as president of the South Summit Stake from 1942 to 1954. He was twice stake Sunday School superintendent, and also had served on the Stake High Council. He was president of his High Priest's Quorum.

Born Sept. 8, 1886, in Salt Lake City, Taylor was the son of Moses Whitaker and Sarah Campbell Taylor. He married Edna Beard on June 25, 1913, in the Salt Lake Temple

Survivors include his widow and sons and daughters: Gordon B., Kamas, Mrs. Boyd (Helen) Lake, Oakley, Summit County; Mrs. E. L. (Irene) Ostrander, Murray; Arthur B., Clearfield; Mrs. J. Kenneth (Pauline) Davies, Provo; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers, sisters, Elliott C., Mrs. Erminie T. Walton, Mrs. Frank (Miram) Russell, Bayard C. Spencer C., all Salt Lake City; Mrs. Glen (Afton) Walker, Peoa, Summit County.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, at noon, in the Kamas LDS Ward chapel. Friends may call at Crandall Mortuary, Kamas, Friday, 7-9 p.m., and Saturday two hours prior to services.

Burial will be in the Coalville City Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to Primary Children's Hospital in lieu of flowers.
