According to oral tradition, Bennett Bradford and his twin brother Benjamin were born to John Bradford and Mary Marr Kingcart Bradford.

Bennett Bradford married a Miss George about 1755. He and his first wife separated and Bradford moved to North Carolina where he married Margaret Wilson about 1765. He is said to have served as orderly for General Sumpter at Guilford Courthouse in the American Revolution. (DAR number 28 858; 83 227 SAR 9597)

After the war, Bennett and Margaret moved to Tennessee (oral history). This marriage also ended in separation and Bennett moved back to North Carolina where he married Susannah Bush 14 November 1798.

They had twin children, a boy and a girl.

Another member has shared this information regarding Joseph's ancestry: "Joseph Bennett Bradford (17238-1828) R-M269 13 24 15 11 11-14 12 12 11 10 13 26 17 9-10 11 11 25 15 17 29 15-15-16-17 11 10 19-23 16 15 18 17 37-41 12 12

He does not match to the Plymouth, MA Bradford family like some researchers would like to think."
