Susan was born a twin. It was not all that common for twins to survive in the early 1800's but she and brother Hosea not only survived, but lived into their 80's.
She was descended from a branch of Virginia Bradfords and Bushes, and despite what was considered an indescretion early in life, went on to become a good mother to five living children. She lost two sons in the Civil War and almost lost a third. Her surviving son and two daughters had many descendants who are now spread throughout the United States.

She was buried at Harper's Chapel at 2:00 in the afternoon with the Rev. J.A. Lee officiating.
