Fred was born in Germany and came to the United States at the age of 26. He settled in Watertown, WI and married Louise Wilkowski, a widow with 4 children. The oldest was only 13 years younger than he was. Louise was his second wife. After she died, he lived with his daughter, Emma, and her husband in Fort Atkinson where he helped out in the family's tinsmithing business. He had previously worked as a cooper.
He was the last of his family when he died and had been staying with his step-grand-daughter in Lebanon, WI. He died at the age of 90 of myocarditis and is buried in the Frederick C Wilkowski family plot next to his wife Louisa.
