George was the 7th son of farmers George W. & Elizabeth (Williams) Caldwell. He married Lola Boyd in Welch, WV on Dec. 14, 1904.

MULLENS, July 11 - George Echols Caldwell, of 1111 Moran Avenue, West Mullens, an inspector for the W. M. Ritter Lumber Company for more than 40 years, died at 11:30 a.m. today, approximately 45 minutes after his admittance to the Beckley Hospital. He was 80. He had been seriously ill since Sunday night when he was stricken with pains in the region of the stomach and right leg, the latter believed caused by a blood clot. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Lola Boyd Caldwell; five sons, Creamer of Oroville, Cal., Delmas and Alton, both of Mullens, Randolph, of Princeton, and Ray, at home; Also four daughters, Mrs. Lacy Crawford, of Parkersburg, Mrs. John McCoy and Mrs. Donald Winzenrith, both of Mullens, and Mrs. Thomas Eddy, of Wheeling; two brothers, Floyd Caldwell, of Dry Branch, and Giles, of Princeton; a sister, Mrs. T. E. Hatcher, of Princeton; and two half-sisters, Mrs. Cleo Cunningham, of Huntington, and Miss Stella Caldwell, address unknown. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren.
For 36 years, between 1910 and 1946, he resided at Maben where he was employed by the Ritter firm as a lumber inspector, until 1944 later serving as a watchman for the West Gulf Coal company for a period of 14 months and until his retirement. He was a member of the Mullens Masonic Lodge No. 151, A.F. and A.M. The body is at the Robertson and Foglesong Funeral Home where funeral arrangements are incomplete.
