Twila Ryan Clem, 87, of Timberville, died July 2, 2011, at Life Care Center of New Market. She was born March 4, 1924, in Hepners, located in Shenandoah County, and was a daughter of the late Robert and Minnie Baker Ryan. She is survived by her husband, Everette " Pete" Clem, whom she married Aug. 13, 1949.

at Also surviving are a son, Ross Clem and wife, Meg, of Broadway; a daughter, Jan Fulk and husband, Kenton, of Broadway; two grand¬daughters, Sarah Clem and husband, Michael Bar¬rett, of Durham, N. C., and Rachel Clem of Broadway; and a brother, Clovis Ryan and wife, Doris, of Tim¬berville.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Geneva Branner; three brothers, Berlin Ryan, Elwood Ryan, and Rodney Ryan; a half brother, Wilbur Ryan; and two half sisters, Gladys Frye and Celia Guggen¬heim.

She graduated from New Market High School. In her active years, she worked at Early and Eddins Produce and Rockingham Poultry. In order to stay at home and raise her chil¬dren, she became self- em¬ployed as a public book¬keeper, doing books for many Timberville busi¬nesses and income taxes for many Broadway and Timberville residents. She was a member of the Tim¬berville Volunteer Fire De¬partment Ladies' Auxiliary and a charter member of Chimney Rock VFW Post 9660. She was a lifelong Lutheran, namely Morning Star Lutheran Church at Hepners and Rader Luther¬an Church of Timberville. She was active in the church serving as a sub¬stitute organist, choir member and president of church council. She was the original meals on wheels in the community, transporting hot lunches to the Broadway- Tim¬berville Senior Center, which originated at Rader Lutheran Church in 1973. She was known for her lis¬tening ear, sense of humor and wisdom. Pastor Kathleen Miko will conduct a graveside service Wednesday at 10 a. m. at the Rader Lutheran Church Cemetery. A memorial service will fol¬low at 11 a. m. at Rader Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the church. Arrangements are en¬trusted to the Grandle Fu¬neral Home of Broadway. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rader Lutheran Church, P. O. Box 1123, Timberville, VA 22853. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www. grandlefuneral¬home.
