He died after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was a 28 year veteran of the US Army, joining after high school. He flew Kiowa helicopters, and was a test pilot and flight instructor for the Army. He deployed to combat on multiple occasions serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Balkans.
He was predeceased by his father, Francis Selje. He was survived by his mother; his wife; one son; two daughters; step-mother; and two sisters.
A Memorial service was held on July 12, 2011 at Nelsen Funeral Home, Williamsburg, VA. Interment on July 14, 2011.
