WASHINGTON - Charles J. Erwin, 82, of 205 Elmhurst Drive died at 10:05 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.

Born Dec. 5, 1919, in Sullivan to Charles L. and Eugenia Peadro Erwin, he married Carmen Benck on Aug. 5, 1950, in Washington. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Chuck (and Pat) of Morton and Larry of Farmington; one brother, Leonard (and Dorothea) of Washington; one sister, June Queen of Washington; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

He was a World War II Army veteran.

A graduate of Sparks Business College in Shelbyville and a 1950 graduate of Bradley University, he was an auditor for the Internal Revenue Service from 1950 until retiring in 1979.

He was a member of National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

He also was a member of Sunnyland Christian Church, where services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Dr. Richard Garrett will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria and one hour before services at the church. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Morton.

Memorials may be made to Northern Tazewell Rescue Squad or his church.
