Evan Russell Lombard, originally born in South Hero, VT, and a resident of Albuquerque, NM since 1972, passed away at the age of 80 on Tuesday, April 24, 2007.
Evan is survived by his wife, Eleanor originally from Chester, PA, his children, Darrell Lombard and his wife, Bea, Kathryn Lombard, and Cheryl Thorpe and her husband, John, grandchildren, Russell Lombard, and Adam and Samuel Thorpe, all of Albuquerque, NM, three sisters and one brother, Jeanne Kurpiewski and Virginia Beaulieu of Florida and Shirley Lee of Vermont, and Douglas Lombard of Maryland.
A veteran of 32 years of military service, he served in the South Pacific in the United States Navy for 4 years and then joined the United States Air Force, having assignments in Alaska, Hawaii and Germany. Evan served during World War II, Korea and the Vietnam War.
Shortly after his retirement from the United States Air Force in 1972, he was employed by the United States Postal Service in Albuquerque, NM until he fully retired in 1993.
Evan loved to spend time with his family and friends and enjoyed the last several years traveling the Mexican Riviera, the Caribbean and Europe.
Evan was a collector of coins and stamps and also compiled a meticulous genealogy documenting almost 200 years of family history. In spite of 35 years of heart ailments and health challenges he lived a full life and will be greatly missed.
A Memorial Service will be held at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM on Sunday, April 29, 2007, at 3:00 p.m. Graveside Services will be held Monday, April 30, 2007, 2:00 p.m., at Santa Fé National Cemetery, Santa Fé, NM. We would like to thank the staff at the VA Medical Center for their superior care and support.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Mexico VA Health Care System, c/o Voluntary Service (135), 1501 San Pedro SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108 in memory of Evan Lombard.
