POUGHKEEPSIE - Florence B. Mac Nish, 92, of Poughkeepsie, formerly of Sausse Avenue in Troy, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2008, surrounded by her family at the Wingate at Beacon health care facility in Beacon.
Born in New York City on November 11, 1915, she was the youngest child of David and Florence Beales.
She graduated from Troy High School in the Class of 1932 and worked at Montgomery Ward & Co. in Albany, starting as a secretary and advancing to become the manager of the Standards and Procedures Department before she left to get married.
On November 26, 1943, Florence married Marshall Mac Nish of Ghent.
In the 1950s, she and Marshall owned and operated Mac Nish Launderease, a full-service laundry in Lansingburgh. Following the sale of that business, Florence retired from the workforce.
After her husband's death in January 2005, she resided at the Vassar Warner Home in Poughkeepsie.
Florence is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen M. and Susan A. Mac Nish of Pleasant Valley: a grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Shawn M. and Karen P. Mac Nish of Poughkeepsie; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Heather M. and David N. LaVarnway of Millbrook, NY: and two great-grandchildren, Breck and Sylvia Mac Nish of Poughkeepsie.
A private memorial service for family members will be held at the Parmele Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Ave. in Poughkeepsie, later in the week. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be at the Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, next to Marshall at the convenience of the family.
