Ray Eugene Myers, age 71, of Canonsburg, formerly of Clarksburg, W.Va., died at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2006, in his home.

He was born May 10, 1935, in Sligo, a son of David L. and Mildred Saylor Myers.

Mr. Myers was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in McMurray and a former member of First United Methodist Church of Clarksburg. He was a graduate of Rimersburg High School, the U.S. Army School of Engineering and George Washington University with a civil engineering degree.

Mr. Myers joined the Army in 1957. He graduated from Fort Benning Military Institute with honors and was commissioned a second lieutenant of the infantry. He also graduated from the U.S. Army Ranger and Special Forces School (Green Berets) in 1961 at Fort Benning. After serving 20 years in the U.S. Army, he retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel. Mr. Myers was a retired businessman, being in the Culligan Water Conditioning business for 40 years.

Mr. Myers was a 32nd-degree Mason of the Grand Lodge of West Virginia F&AM, Clarksburg Lodge No. 155. He also was a Nemesis Shriner. He was a past governor of the Moose, was a member of the American Legion in Clarksburg and was mayor of Clarksburg from 1969 to 1971.

Mr. Myers also was a teacher of the Pennsylvania Achievement class for seventh and eighth graders.

On April 26, 1957, he married Connie Ann Sloan, who survives. Surviving also are a son, Gregory Allen and wife Debbie of Parkersburg, W.Va., a daughter, Cheryl Ann and husband John Robert Keleman of Canonsburg; four sisters, Judy Fair of Butler, Joann Boyles of Cranberry, Jane Custer of Rimersburg and Janice Geibel of East Brady; a sister-in-law, Linda Sloan of New Bethlehem; seven grandchildren, Ryan and Michelle Beitzel, Samantha, Kristen Rae, Brianna Myers, Zachary Alkire and Samantha Brittany Keleman.

Deceased are two brothers, Harry and Walter Myers.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday in Bogan Funeral Home, 164 West Pike Street, Canonsburg. Additional visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of services, on Thursday, December 7, in Trinity United Methodist Church, Center Road, McMurray. Friends are asked to meet at the church. Burial will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township, with full military rites accorded by the honor guards of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191, Canonsburg, and American Legion Post 902 of Houston.
