James Nicholas Arwine was born February 13, 1842 in Lawrence, Indiana to James Arwine and Mary Ellen Martin.



He enlisted as a corporal in Company H, 82nd Regiment, Indiana Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. Mustered in 8/30/1862 at Nashville, Indiana and mustered out 6/9/1865 near Washington, DC. From 12/1862 until 7/11/1863, and from 9/1863 until 1/1864, was assigned as a color guard.



He married Elizabeth (Eliza) Jane Robertson May 13, 1866 in Brown County, Indiana.
