He was the son of Edward Lamkin (killed in a hunting accident) and Carrie Sharpe. He married Virginia Ruth Houck and was the father of Nina Lynn and Larry Edward. He had one grandaughter, Ginger Lee.

Archie attended Lenoir public schools and the Patterson School. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lenoir.

Archie was a clever machinist who could fix almost anything. He was instrumental in making some of the first snow-making machines in the Boone / Appalachian area. He built his own log de-barker. He loved to fish and especially enjoyed expeditions to Santee-Cooper. And there was nothing he loved like a good hot dog.

His family will never forget the way he entertained his nieces and nephews by eating fire. He was really quite a character.
