SERVICES FOR CITY SCHOOL TEACHER WILL BE TODAY--
Funeral for Miss Violet Caroline Read, teacher at Shields Heights School since 1933, will be at 3 pm Tuesday in Watts Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Miss Read died Friday in St Anthony Hospital at age 60. She was forced to leave her sixth grade class at the school in October and was hospitalized a few days later.
She had taught in Oklahoma City schools 24 years, coming here from Clinton, Iowa, to teach at Wilson School. Six years later she transferred to Shields Heights. She earned her master of science degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1931 and had attended workshops and summer session at several universities, including the University of California. Last year she served as secretary of the safety policies committee of the public school system and for many years worked on committees in the Classroom Teachers Association here.
