Frederick was a native son of Detroit, his parents were John and Esther Cook Austin. Frederick graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 1900. He was one of 6 children.He was President of the American Legal News Corporation and a member of the Detroit Bar. He was married to Mabel Clara Dunbar. They lived in Detroit, Washington D.C. and New York. Fredrick and Mabel had three children-Robert, Elisabeth and Fredrick. He practiced law for many years, his first office being in the Dime Bank Building and later in the National Bank Building on Woodward Avenue. He retired at the age of 73 after 50 years of law practice. Fredrick died the day before his 87th birthday in 1964.
