Bertha Fabianke was born on February 9, 1877 in Germany. Her exact place of birth is unknown, but her father and several of her brothers and sisters were born in Posen. Bertha was the daughter of Johann Friedrich "Wilhelm" Fabianke and Emilie Schmidt Fabianke.
On October 22, 1889, the Fabianke family arrived in New York aboard the SS Fulda, and made their way to Washington County, Texas. In 1894, Bertha married Herman Jahnke. Their children were Walter, Rudolph, Selma, Alma, Ella, Hattie, Will, Elsa, and Herman. The family farmed in Washington, Limestone, and Falls Counties.
Bertha died on February 12, 1959.
