Rudolph Tieken Found Dead At His Home

No Reason Known For Tragedy

Rudolph Tieken prominent young farmer of Gonzales Dead in his home several miles north of here by members of his family Saturday night when they rushed to the scene after his wife received a farewell telephone message from him telling her goodbye.
Mr. Tieken brought his wife and children to town about 7 o'clock Saturday evening leaving them with his wife's father. It is said he told them that they would never see him again. It is declared Mrs. Tieken thought her husband was only teasing when he told her "goodbye the first time.
He walked a way leaving his family at George Tiekens filling station on the Luling Highway and they suppose he was going to town.
It is said that about an hour and a half later, Mrs. Tieken received the tragic telephone message from her husband telling her "goodbye" the second time. By this time the family became alarmed and rushed to the scene of the tragedy. At 8:30 p.m. When members of the family reached the home, they found the body of their loved one, laying on a bed with a shot gun wound in his heart.
No reason whatsoever is known why the tragedy took place as Mr. Tieken had his farm in excellent condition in the county and the family was apparently happy.
On March 9, 1922, his father John Tieken was found dead with a shot gun wound in his heart.
Rudolph Tieken was 32 years, 11 months and four days of age. He leaves a wife and four children, Marvin, Edna, Milton and Ruby, seven brothers, Chas, Willie, Hugo, Walter, Robert, Otto and Bennie, two sisters, Mrs. Ollie Brun and Mrs. Arthur Brun , besides a host of friends to mourn his death.
The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the family residence out on Route 4. The family pastor Rev. R. A. Schmidt of the Lutheran church conducted the services at the residence p, after which the remains were taken in charge by the Herman sons, of which order he had been a member for a member of years.
F.G. Saliger, John Saliger, Joe Wolf, Fritz Frankenhauser, Louis Landbeck and Otto Krause were the pall bearers, conveying he casket to the waiting hearse, the long procession then forming and proceeding to the W.O.W. And Herman Sons cemetery on East Avenue where interment was made.
The funeral was largely attended many friends and relatives from various sections of the county gathering to pay the last tribute to his memory.
There were many lovely floral offerings placed on the last resting place of the loved one.
His tragic death is deplored by all who knew him, his family have been almost prostrated by the blow. In their great sorrow they will have the sympathy of every one.
