U.S. Congressman. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, he taught school, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1860 and commenced to practice law in Goshen, New York. He was commissioner for Orange County and judge of the Orange County Courts, (1861-64). In 1869, he presented credentials as a Democratic Member-elect to the Forty-first Congress, serving until 1870. Being succeeded from his seat in Congress, he was a member of the New York State Assembly, (1885-88) and practice law until death at age 64.
