Doris Jean Williams Peterson, 75, died July 14, 2002, with her family at her side. She was born Feb. 19, 1927, in Topeka, Kan. She was a resident of San Bernardino County for more than 70 years. Her family moved to Needles in the late 1920s. By the early 1930s, they were residing in Barstow. She graduated from Barstow High School in 1944, after marrying Jesse "Pete" Peterson in September of 1943. She and Jesse began their family in Barstow then moved to the County Yard in Victorville. The late 1950s found them in Barstow once again. In 1967, they retired to Hesperia, where she has resided for the last 35 years. Doris spent her life caring for and raising her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to being an avid reader, she enjoyed collecting dolls, India/Southwest collectibles and Elvis memorabilia. Her love of crafting included sewing, making dolls and toys, and painting Indian and Southwest collectibles. She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence T. Williams; mother Ethel Lee Bailey Williams; sister Cylestia Williams and husband, Jesse "Pete" Peterson; sons and their wives, Michael and Bonnie Peterson of Yermo, Glen and Kay Peterson of Hesperia and Dennis and Cindy Peterson of Hesperia; seven grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren survive her. Her brothers and their wives, Jerry and Margie Williams and Walt and Norma Williams, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends also survive her. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Desert View Funeral Home in the state room, 11478 Amargosa Road in Victorville. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Desert View Funeral Home Chapel in Victorville, with the Rev. Chris Scott of the Church of Christ in Hesperia officiating. Burial will be at Desert View Memorial Park in Victorville. Desert View Memorial Park and Funeral Home will be handling arrangements.
