Doris Olamae Shipp Kimbrell related the following information regarding her sister to me. Her mother, Mary, died giving birth to her second daughter, Sadie Mae Shipp, on 8 April 1930 as shown in the Alabama, Deaths and Burials Index, 1881-1974. It was a difficult birth and the little girl was not expected to live. Sadie passed away on 12 April 1930. Upon her death, her father had her dressed, wrapped in a blanket, and placed in her mother's arms. Mother and daughter were buried together in Mary's casket at Mt Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Doris was only 3 years old at the time. Her father, Chester J. Shipp, told her this story when she was old enough to understand what had happened. She related the story to me when we were talking about our family histories. I confirmed the story through Mary's death record as well as that of Sadie Mae Shipp's found in Alabama Deaths, 1908-1974.
