US Congressman. Born in Hatfield, Massachusetts, he attended Williams College in Williamstown (1818 to 1821) before moving to Tiffin, Ohio, where he was admitted to the bar and set up a law practice. He was prosecuting attorney for Seneca County (1824), Williams County (1826), and Sandusky County (1827), and a member of the Ohio Board of Public Works from 1836 to 1845. Dickinson was elected as a Democrat to represent Ohio's 6th District in the Thirtieth and Thirty-First US Congresses, and served from 1847 until his death in office. Originally buried at Congressional Cemetery in Washington, DC, he was later reinterred at Oakwood Cemetery in Fremont, Ohio.
