Helen Sue Trinkle Stroud, 89, entered eternal life on Sunday, June 18, 2006. Born on July 19, 1916 in Wytheville, Va. to Governor and Mrs. E. Lee Trinkle, Helen Sue was the last remaining child, having been predeceased by her brothers, E. Lee Trinkle, Jr., William S. Trinkle and James L. Trinkle. Her childhood was spent in Wytheville before moving to Richmond with her family while her father served as Governor. The family later moved to Roanoke where she graduated from Hollins College. Having a deep appreciation of history and family, Helen Sue was active for many years in the Colonial Dames and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a long time member of Second Presbyterian Church. Her later years were spent at Brandon Oaks with her beloved husband, William E. (Stumpy) Stroud, who predeceased her. She was also predeceased by a precious grandson, Lucas Lawson. Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Greene H. Lawson, Jr. and wife, Dodi, Lee T. Lawson and wife, Paulette, all of Roanoke, William P. Lawson and wife, Karen of Moneta and Myrtle Beach, S.C. ; grandchildren, Lee T. Lawson, Jr., Greene H. Lawson, III, Robert L. Lawson, Megan L. Lemmond, Elizabeth L. Nelson, Susan L. Tyler and Ann Ball Lawson; four greatgrandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and faithful friend and helpmate, Kathleen Gray. Friends may call at 2602 Stephenson Ave. Roanoke, Va. from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday evening, June 19, 2006. A memorial service will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. George C. Anderson on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Brandon Oaks with graveside services being conducted by the Rev. Richard L. Horner at 2 p.m. at East End Cemetery in Wytheville, Va. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to The Foundation Fighting Blindness, 11435 Cronhill Dr., Owings Mills, Md. 21117-9873.
