Edith graduated from the Oneida County Normal School in 1940 with a degree in teaching. She taught at Emden School, Alexander Stuart School and the Wayside School in the town of Pelican and also served as a substitute in the Rhinelander district. Following her marriage to Erving Towne, Edith was a devoted wife and mother to her family.
Edith is survived by her children, Beverly (Ray) Mathey, Jacqueline (Gail) Pond, Mary Worden, Dale Towne, and Randy (Marilyn) Towne all of Rhinelander and Larry Towne of Antigo; 12 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sisters, Harriet Nylund of Rhinelander and Carrie (Llewelyn) Schroeder of Plainfield; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Erving Towne in 2003; a daughter, Joan Towne; a son, Mark Towne; a great grandson, Cody Hoffhein; and two sisters, Vera Rodman and Doris Johnson.
Graveside services for Edith will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 24, 2011, at Forest Home Cemetery
