Ferne was born the daughter of Lester E. Snyder and Annie Hare Snyder in Meyersdale, Somerset, Pennsylvania. The family relocated to Akron, Summit, Ohio when she was very young.

Ferne married Howard R. Binnig of Grand River, Lake, Ohio on 14 February 1939 and was a member of the Grand River Congrgational Church in Grand River. Ferne and Howard made their home in Painesville township, Lake, Ohio.

Ferne died on Sunday, 19 March 1950 at the Lake County Memorial Hospital in Painesville after being admitted for three days. Services were held the following Wednesday, 22 March and interment at Everygreen Cemetery in Painesville.

Ferne Binnig was survived by her husband; three children; a sister Trellis Townsend of Akron; three brothers Robert of Akron; Karl of Painesville and Harrison of Struthers, Ohio.
