Major League Baseball Player. For six seasons (1956, 1958 to 1962), he played at the shortstop position with the Boston Red Sox, Houston Colt .45s and Detroit Tigers. Born Donald Thomas Buddin, he attended Olanta High School (South Carolina) where he achieved All-American status in baseball, before being signed as an amateur free agent by Boston in 1952. He marked his Major League debut on April 17th, 1956 and played in 114 games that year, recording 90 hits. Following service with the US Army (he was stationed in Korea), which forced him to miss the 1957 season, he returned to the Red Sox' lineup in 1958. During the next four years (1958 to 1961), Buddin held the starting shortstop position with Boston and yielded his most productive season in 1958, as he produced career-highs in hits with 118 and home runs with 12. He was dealt to Houston in 1961 and was a member of the Colt .45s opening-day roster during their inaugural season of 1962. In 711 regular season games, he compiled 551 hits with a .241 lifetime batting average. Following his baseball career, he worked as an insurance salesman.
