The son of Daniel & Elizabeth Cohick, he married Sarah Ann Roth September 15, 1848, in New Germantown, Perry County, Pennsylvania, and fathered Willis K. (b. 07/21/49), Mary Catherine (b. 05/01/51 - married Arnold Mumper), Samuel Henry (b. 02/14/53), George W. (b. 03/16/55), Carrie (b. 09/08/57 - married James Laley), William H. (b. 01/08/60), Anna C. (b. 05/11/62 - married Andy Henson), Barnett (b. 08/26/64), Laura F. (b. 10/08/66), and James (b. 03/11/69, 03/21/69). In 1860, he was a tanner living with his family in Toboyne Township, Perry County, and is in that census as "Christopher Cohick." He stood 5' 4" tall and had black hair and dark eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted and mustered into federal service at Carlisle February 24, 1864, as a private with Battery G, 3rd Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery (152nd Pa), and honorably discharged with his battery November 9, 1865.
