Margaret Steed Smith Cooper (Mrs Maxey Cooper), born June 14, 1898 in Concordia KS, to (Dr) Lawrence T and Edith Smith with her twin brother, Carlton, grew up in Newton KS. After attending Lindenwood and graduating from KU and graduate work at Columbia University, she came in 1928 to Oklahoma City to teach at Webster Jr High.
She met and married Dr F Maxey Cooper (1900-1953) and was active in many civic organizations. She was an Alpha Chi Omega. She served as house mother of Sigma Nu at OU from 1956-1967. She remained active in First Presbyterian Church, Art Renaissance, Wednesday Review and the Bridgers.
She is survived by daughters, Margaret Maxey (Mrs Norman Reynolds) of OKC; Phyllis Ann (Mrs Dean R Grewell) of Des Moines IA. Grandchildren include Norman Reynolds III, Robert Reynolds and Margaret R Hoge, all of OKC; Elizabeth R Tschiemer of Dallas; Rick Grewell of Des Moines; Patricia G Greenwald of San Francisco CA; Lawrence Grewell of NYC; and 4 great grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday, Apr 20, 1991 at 2 pm, First Presbyterian Church with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Canterbury Living Center or First Presbyterian Church.
