SPRINGFIELD - John E. Lex, 85, of Springfield died Sunday, April 23, 2006, at St. John's Hospital.

He was born April 28, 1920, in Springfield, the son of John A. and Marie C. Rohan Lex. He married Theresa C. "Terry" Kenney in 1946. A daughter, Janet Robinson; son, James M. Lex; and two infant sons preceded him in death.

Mr. Lex was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He retired as a freight agent for GM&O/ICG Railroad in 1981 after 44 years. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 364 and Church of the Little Flower, where he was a member of the Men's Club. He served on the board of directors of Heartland Credit Union and was an assistant scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 20.

Survivors: wife, Theresa; three daughters, Sue Anne (husband, Dr. Ralph) Hatcher of Indianapolis, Judy L. (husband, Dave) Thompson of Springfield and Carol Lex of Dawson; four sons, Robert (wife, Cindy), Ed (wife, Sandy Smith), John (wife, Sandy) and Tom (wife, Tracey) Lex, all of Springfield; 24 grandchildren; brother, Joseph R. Lex of Wyndmoor, Pa.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral Mass: 9:30 a.m. Friday, Church of the Little Flower, the Rev. Steven Janoski officiating. Burial: Camp Butler National Cemetery.
