J. Gronkowski Dies Suddenly
Julius Gronkowski, 68, coal miner of 1260 East Hickory Street, died at 6:45 p.m. Monday in a rest room of the Rosa Bauer tavern, 1200 block East Sangamon street. Death, apparently, was caused by a heart attack, since Mr. Gronkowski had been under treatment for a heart ailment, it was said by Coroner Harold Brintlinger.
With his brother-in-law, W. A. McGlade of 935 North Lowber street, Mr. Gronkowski entered the tavern a few minutes before his death and went directly to the rest room. His death was discovered by George Beard, 556 Longview Place. Coroner Brintlinger was called and the body was taken to the Moran funeral home in a Brintlinger ambulance.
Relatives said that Mr. Gronkowski had been ill with heart trouble for over a year. He was born Oct. 31, 1875, in Prussia and had lived in Decatur since he was 16 years old. He was a coal miner, and a member of the English Lutheran church.
He was married in Decatur in 1903 and leaves his wife and four children, Oscar, Lucille and George, of Decatur and Edward, who is with the U. S. army hospital corps in England. He has two sisters, Mrs. Tillie McGlade and Mrs. Art McGlade, both of Decatur.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Morans' chapel with burial in Fairlawn cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today.
