U.S. Congressman. Successful in the real estate business, he entered politics was collector of taxes, (1841-42) and was a member of the Maryland State House of Delegates, (1843-44). He also chief judge of the orphans’ court of Allegany County, (1854-69). In 1869, he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-first Congress, serving until 1871. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he engaged in the real estate business until his death at age 77.
