DEATH OF MRS. TOBIAS TOBIASSEN
The death of Mrs. Anke Maria Tobiassen occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Herman Hanken, in Lovell Township, last Friday, July 13, at 9 a.m. Her death followed a nine weeks illness of jaundice.
Mrs. Tobiassen was born June 13, 1840, at Reepsholt, Germany, and was therefore 83 years of age at the time of her death. The deceased was married twice. Her first husband was Henry Eden Behrends. They emigrated from Germany to the United States in the year 1861. The family home was first made in Illinois. Later, Mr. and Mrs. Behrends removed to Jones county, where the former died. There were two children born to this union. In 1865, the deceased was married to Tobias Tobiassen, who died January 15, 1907. There were seven children born to the second marriage. The children who survive their mother are Ben B Behrends, George F. Tobiassen and Mrs. Herman Hanken. In addition to these children, Mrs. Tobiassen is survived by 24 grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Henry Heiken and Mrs. Henry Folkers.
Mrs. Tobiassen has lived for many years in the vicinity of Monticello, and was a faithful member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran church from the time of its founding. The funeral services ere held last Sunday Morning at 11 o'clock at the church, and were conducted by Rev. W.H.L. Schuetz, its pastor. The services were attended by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends. It may not be out of place to add that the bell which rang the funeral knell for Mrs. Tobiassen was presented to the church, during his lifetime by her late husband, Tobias Tobiassen. Burial was had at St. John's cemetery. Mrs. Tobiassen, having been a resident of Wayne township ever since Civil War days, was widely and favorably known. Hers was a good, faithful and conscientious life, and she leaves a wide circle of friends to cherish her memory.
