VIRGINIA BEACH - Retired U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Albert R. "Ray" Estes, 83, passed away Sunday, July 26, 2009, at a local hospital. Ray was born Feb. 1, 1926, in Atlanta to the late Albert R. Estes Sr. and Louise Glore Estes. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Betty Louise Estes.
Ray is survived by his loving wife, Mary Edith Estes; a son, James Alexander Estes and his wife Katherine Forbes Estes; an aunt, Louise Estes Parker; and many cousins. He is also survived by a host of friends.
After Ray retired from the U.S. Navy, he opened Estes Realty Company which he operated successfully for 20 years. During this time he was actively involved in real estate training and education at the Virginia Realtor's Institute.
A funeral will be conducted at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, Tuesday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Dr. Prentis McGoldrick. Burial will follow in Colonial Grove Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
