Joseph Eschler Evans, 59, died Saturday, May 19, in Bear Lake Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
He was born Sept. 14, 1919, in Logan to Joseph Alvin and Lillian Eschler Evans. He married Zelda Cook on January 23, 1948, in the Logan LDS Temple. He was active in the LDS Church and was serving as meetinghouse librarian in his ward. He worked for many years as office manager of the county ASCS office.

Survivors include his widow, Montpelier; four sons, Brian Joseph, Annandale, Va, Eric Charles, Cambridge, Mass., Mark Merrill and David Harley, both Montpelier; a daughter, Mrs. Curtis (Elizabeth) Burdett, San Diego, Calif.; four grandchildren; two brothers, Dr. Darwin E. Evans, Smithfield, Utah, and Dr. Woodrow E. Evans, Provo; two sisters, Mrs. Merlynn Hart, San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. Reed (Betty) Nielson, Logan.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 23, at 1 p.m. in the Montpelier Stake Center, with Bishop Jon Hyde conducting. Services were under the direction of Matthews Mortuary, and flowers were under the direction of the Third Ward Relief Society.

Dr. Woodrow E. Evans gave the family prayer. The invocation was by Curtis R. Burdett. Betty Evans Nielson gave the life story, and speakers were Bishop Howard W. Tolley and Lewis Munk. The benediction was by Bishop Edward C. Cook.

A quartet composed of Bp. Philip Hulme, Harold Bunn, Dr. Paul Daines and Max Haddock sang a medley of hymns. Lyle Boehme, accompanied by Hazel Jacobson sang "How Great Thou Art". Ruth Kay Andersen, Marie Tolley and Mary Jean Barnson sang "Abide With Me". The prelude and postlude were played by Lois Lee Hulme.

Pallbearers were Curtis R. Burdett, Eric C. Evans, Paul K. Evans, Mark M. Evans, Brian Evans and Devid H. Evans.

Interment was in Monpelier Cemetery.
