Robert William Queen was born 15 March 1913 in the Wilson district of Phoenix, Arizona to William Alonzo Queen (1858-1920) and his third wife, Hattie Louella (Harris) Queen (1871-1965). Robert's Arizona birth certificate listed his name as Woodrow Wilson Queen, though he was identified as Robert at least from the time he was five years old. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He was married first to Alta Louise Shelton (1910-1952) on 6 February 1931 in Mangum, Greer, OK. They were presumably divorced within a few years. His second wife was Ruth Gambill Queen, whom he married on 20 July 1946 in Clayton, Georgia. They lived in Black Mountain, NC for many years. They had no children. He was widowed in 1995. Robert died on 22 May 1997 in Sparta, NC at the age of 84.
