Death of Catherine Vannest
Catherine Potter was born in OH, February 16, 1813. She was married to Samuel Vannest, at Clinton, IN, in 1833. Eleven children were born to them. The husband and 5 children have passed away. Six children remain to mourn her loss - Isaac Vannest and Dallas Vannest of Sterling; Taylor Vannest of Clinton, IN; Mrs. Lucy Young of Denver, CO; Mrs. Serena Ranes of Red Rock, OK; Mrs. Jennie Gift of Davis, IL. Grandma Vannest lived in Clinton, IN until 1879. From there she came to Sterling and has resided here ever since. At 5 o'clock January 2, at her home 4 1/2 miles west of Sterling, death took her away at the age of 85 years, 10 months, and 16 days. She united with the M.E. Church in 1837 and remained a devoted Christian until the end. Rev. C.H. Strong conducted the funeral services in the M.E. Church, and her remains were sent to Clinton, IN, for burial.

Mrs. Catherine Vannest, widow of the late Samuel Vannest, one of the pioneers of Vermillion County, died at Sterling, KS, last Monday. The remains were brought to Clinton Friday accompanied by her 2 sons, Isaac and Dallas Vannest. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Royes preached the funeral.
