Joseph Edward Dean was born June 14, 1845 in Haslingden, Lancashire, England. He came to America with his father, John Dean, in 1864, after his family had joined the "Mormon" church. The rest of the family joined them in New York the following year. They reached Salt Lake City on Oct. 1, 1866 in the Joseph S. Rawlins Company. They spent their first winter in Kaysville. Next they lived in Sugarhouse where the family worked in the textile mill there. Joseph married Alice Maude Wilson Nov. 22, 1869. They made there home in Salt Lake City, then in Ogden, Utah. He worked for the woolen mills there. The rest of the Dean family moved to Beaver, Utah. Joseph E. Dean died Sept. 21, 1896 of pneumonia, leaving behind a widow and young family.
