Son of Thomas Parker and Ellen Dean. John's parents were not married.

John worked in the textile mills at a young age in order to help support his family.

He married Martha Holdsworth, 26 Jan 1834, Pendle, Lancashire, England.

Children - William Dean, Mary Ann Dean, Eliza Dean, Ellen Dean, James Dean, Joseph Edward Dean, Hyrum Dean, Heber C. Dean, Jedediah "Jeddy" Dean, Martha Harriet Dean.

John joined the "Mormon" church in 1843, and emigrated to America in 1864. He worked in the textile mills of New York waiting for the rest of his family to make the journey. They came in 1865.

The Dean family came to Salt Lake City in October 1866. They settled for a time in Kaysville, then in Sugarhouse, working in the textile factory there. They moved to Beaver in 1870, and worked in the factory that was built there.

He died in July 1872 of pneumonia.
