MRS. ELIZABETH TOBIN
CHESTERTON--Mrs. Elizabeth (Bowser) Tobin, age 82, Wilmette, Ill., a former resident of Valparaiso and Chesterton, died at 9:15 p.m. Friday in St. Francis hospital in Evanston.
She was born in Valparaiso Aug. 27, 1877, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Bowser.
She was graduated from Valparaiso Normal school, now Valparaiso university. She was married Nov. 5, 1901, to Thomas C. Tobin in Wisconsin, and lived in that state until the death of her husband in 1916.
She then moved to Chesterton to reside with her mother and brother, the late Arthur J. Bowser, who was then editor of the Chesterton Tribune. Mrs. Tobin worked in the office with her brother and also sold real estate.
After the death of her brother she was made president of the Chesterton Land company. It was she who was responsible for the building up the west side of Chesterton, in what was called the "Boom."
Her only survivors are three nephews, Durbin and James Bowser, Kansas City, and Arthur J. Bowser, Jr., Arlington, W. Va.
The body is at the Carl Edmonds Funeral home, where arrangements for services are pending.
