Janet was born in Portland to Esther & Paul Legler & had a sister named Florence "Tolley" Arlene. She graduated from Commerce High School in 1940 where she was vice-president.

Oliver & Janet were married April 3, 1945 in Portland, OR when Oliver got back from the South Pacific during World War II. Oliver asked Janet to marry him before he left for the war in 1942. He couldn't make it official without a ring, but was gone for so long. Oliver asked Janet's mother to give her the ring for him. Oliver & Janet had two daughters. They were pre-deceased by their oldest daughter Nadine Louise (Johnson) Grosjean in 1982.

Janet worked at J.R. Roebling & Son before she was married and after that was a homemaker and active volunteer for her church, campfire, and Wilson High School.

In 1966 they moved to Spokane, WA and lived there for about 12 years when they moved back to Portland, OR and were able to be close to watch their grandchildren grow up.

In 1981 Janet & Oliver built a vacation home in Manzanita, OR where the whole family spent many happy times.

Janet loved to sew, garden, and cook for her family. She tremendously enjoyed spending time with her four granddaughters and eventually three great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons.
