Wayne Vincent Henle, 96, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Friday, June 17, 2011, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Bishop Ken Scharr. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 20, at the funeral home, where a rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; daughters, Sandra (Donald) Ellis of Orlando, Fla., and Patricia Burger and Paulette (David) Hughes, both of Cedar Rapids; sons, Donald (Shirley) Henle of Central City and Paul (Dixie DeSotel) of Shellsburg; 19 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his stepchildren, Janice Power of Cedar Falls, Karen (Michael) Armstrong of Boise, Idaho, Judy Merritt of Des Moines, Dan Merritt of Marion, Patricia (Donald) Schwartz of Central City and Lynn (Mike) Coppack of Aniston, Ala.; 24 stepgrandchildren; 24 step-great-grandchildren; and siblings, Marcela Osterberger of Mason City, Ellen Olsen and Barbara Metz, both of Tama, Imelda Roth of Brooklyn, and Dale Henle of Toledo. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Rosella; great-grandson, Adam Renberg; stepson, Jerry Merritt; step-grandson, David Crystal; and siblings, Claras Kriegel, George Henle, Veril Henle, Theresa Kriegel, and Horace "Pat" Henle. Born December 2, 1914, in Tama County, Iowa, Wayne was the son of Francis "Frank" Henle and Antonetta "Nettie" (Gettis) Henle. On November 23, 1937, he was united in marriage to Rosella Osterberger in St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tama. She died November 3, 1994. On December 23, 1999, in Cedar Rapids, Wayne married Evelyn (Mayer) Merritt. Wayne farmed, worked for Wilson Packing Company and the railroad. Wayne was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved to dance, play cards and polka.
