William Johnson Hefner, born February 17, 1915 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Judge Robert A. Hefner and Eva Johnson Hefner. He moved to Oklahoma City in 1926. He graduated from Culver Military Academy in 1933. He graduated from Stanford University with a degree in Political Science in 1937. He served in the 45th Division prior to World War II and was given an Honorable Discharge. During the war, he was a military aircraft inspector for McDonald-Douglas. Following the war, he was active with the family partnership, The Hefner Company. He remained a part of the company until his death.

He is survived by his wife, Erleen; his son, W. John Hefner, Jr. of Oklahoma City; his stepson, G. Clark Southworth of Washington, D.C.; his stepdaughters, Dianne Davis of Dallas and Debbie Magness of Oklahoma City; and numerous grandchildren.

He was a member of All Souls Church, the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club, the Somerset Chapter of the Magna Charta Barons and the Oklahoma Heritage Association. He was formerly a member of the Lotus Club, the OU Touchdown Club, the Whitehall Club and the Beacon Club. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Heritage Association or the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. Entombment service 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Rose Hill Mausoleum with memorial services at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 10, 1995, at All Souls Episcopal Church.
